Let’s crochet this platypus with a rounded body, flat tail, and small bill. The body and arms are crocheted all in one piece, with the feet, bill, hat, and tail crocheted and sewn on separately.
This pattern is designed for crocheters of all skill levels. You can use different yarn types with a suitable hook to make different sizes of the toy.
Stitches used in the pattern are single crochet stitches, double crochet stitches, half double crochet stitches, and bobble stitches, and some crochet techniques like increase and decrease, working in the front loop only.
You can add it as a decorative detail to gift boxes or packaging, incorporate it into nature-inspired or animal-themed displays, or use it as a keychain.

Body
Work with green and orange yarn, color change will be indicated with font color.
Start with green yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in Mr (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
Rnd 5-7: sc around (24) (3 rounds)
Rnd 8: 6 sc, BO, 10 sc, BO, 6 sc
Rnd 9-11: sc around (24) (3 rounds)
Rnd 12: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
Insert eyes between rounds 6-7, 4-5 stitches apart. Start stuffing.
Rnd 13: (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
Rnd 14: dec around (6)
Fasten off, finish stuffing, close, don’t leave a tail.
Bill
Work with orange yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in Mr (6)
Do not close the magic ring with a slip stitch!
Sew between R7-8, between the eyes. Use orange yarn to sew a line above the bill.
Feet
Work with orange yarn and in chains.
Rnd 1: ch 4
Rnd 2: starting from 2nd ch from your hook: sc, hdc, dc
Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing, the top of the foot is where your dc is.
Sew on R11-13 of the body, 2-3 st apart.
Tail
Work with orange yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in Mr (6)
Rnd 2-5: sc around (6) (4 rounds)
Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing, do not stuff.
Sew on the bottom of the body, closer to the back.
Hat
Work with brown yarn.
Rnd 1: 8 sc in a Mr (8)
Rnd 2: inc around (16)
Rnd 3-4: sc around (16)
Rnd 5: FLO: hdc around (16)
Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing, fold the 5th round, stuff.
Sew the hat to the top of the head, using back loops left after R5 of the hat, optionally, add a keychain.
