Rubber Duck Free Crochet Pattern

This tutorial is easy and beginner-friendly, and works up quickly; it makes a great toy, gift, or springtime decoration, nursery décor for baby rooms, party favors for kids’ birthdays.

All you need to make this cute duck is to know some basic crochet stitches like single crochet stitches, some crochet techniques like increase, decrease, how to sew parts, and weave in ends.

You can customize this tutorial and make it with different colors, adding a keychain, a flower to its head, or a bow to give it different looks.

Materials

  • Chenille wool from Gründl
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • 8 mm safety eyes

Abbreviations

sc – single crochet
inc – increase
dec – decrease
Mr – magic ring

Body

Rnd 1: 8 sc in a Mr (8)
Rnd 2: inc around
Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) x 8
Rnd 4: sc around
Rnd 5: sc around
Rnd 6: sc around
Rnd 7: sc around
Rnd 8: dec around
Rnd 9: inc around, chain 5 crochet 4 sc down the chain and 1 sc back into the last stitch of the base (where we started the chain)
Rnd 10: sc 24, 5 sc in the back of the chain, 4 sc down the chain and 1 sc in the base (34)
Rnd 11: sc around (34)
Rnd 12: sc around (34)
Rnd 13: sc around
Rnd 14: sc 27, dec x 2, sc 3
Rnd 15: (2 sc, dec) x 8
Rnd 16: (sc, dec) x 8
Rnd 17: dec around
Rnd 18: sew close

Eyes

Put the eyes between row 4 and 5, 5 stitches apart.

Beak

Rnd 1: start with a slipknot and chain 4
Rnd 2: 3 sc down the chain
Rnd 3: cut the yarn and sew between row 5 and 6

Hi Shelly!
In Rnd 2 “inc around” means to make an increase in each stitch (8 increases total).
So you go from 8 sts to 16. Rnd 3 is correct as written.

Hi! You can make ducks with different yarns with this same pattern. It should work with any yarn size.

I’m also struggling to understand that part of the pattern as well. Im at round 5 and im wondering if the body will look like the picture or not as it looks like it will be more round then oblong..
