Spam musubi is a popular Asian comfort food. Crochet your own cute and quick musubi with this fun amigurumi pattern! Complete with layered rice, spam, and seaweed.

The rice part is designed using tight single crochet stitches and constructed in a way that looks like a box with a flap lid; the seaweed was made using double crochet stitches, and the spam was made using single crochet stitches like the rice part.

Materials & Tools

  • #7 Jumbo weight yarn in white and brown
  • #6 chunky blanket yarn in black
  • 10 mm crochet hook – for spam, rise
  • 8 mm crochet hook – for nori
  • Polyfill fiber
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
inc – increase
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
FO – fasten off

Rice

Row 1: ch 6, 5 sc, turn. Put 5 more sc on the backside of ch (10)
Row 2: inc, 3 sc, 2 inc, 3 sc, inc (14)
Row 3: 2 inc, 4 sc, 3 inc, 4 sc, inc (20)
Row 4: 3 inc, 6 sc, 4 inc, 6 sc, inc, sl st + FO (28)
Row 5-9: 28 sc (28)

On row 9 sl st and FO. Leave tail for sewing.

Spam

Row 1-4: repeat rice rows 1-4

On row 4 sl st + FO.

Nori

Seaweed.

Row 1: ch 6, 3 dc, ch 1 + turn (3)
Row 2: continue with 3 dc per row

Continue until nori is able to wrap around spam and rice.

Assembly

  • Use tail from rice to put spam and rice together.
  • Sew through BLO of spam and both loops of the rice.
  • Connect both ends of nori to create a loop. Slide nori on to spam and rice.
